Recommendation needed - auto spark in Bristol or nearby

The guy that cleans our windows has a 2011 Mondeo, and the remote fob has stopped working (the central locking still works with a key in the door, but not on the button). He's tried various things himself including the procedure for recalibrating the key to no avail.

His local garage has put it on some diagnostic, charged him £40 and sent him to Ford. Ford want £100 to put it on their diagnostics, then if they decide that the central computer is at fault it's another £1000.

He wants someone clued up to take a second look and verify that it's nothing easily fixable before he shells out the £1100 Ford want. Does anyone know of someone like that, in or near Bristol?

PS modern cars are shit (it seems).

These guys:

They were in Bedminster but it looks like they've moved to Dundry recently. I've only ever given them relatively simple stuff, but they seem to get lot of main dealer work - they had a C6 in bits last time I was in...

I know a Mondeo enthusiast and my mechanic....(I still travel from Reading down to Trowbridge (72 miles for me) to have work done on my car that is how much I trust his work) he is in Trowbridge.

Let me know if you want his number or whatever,

Thanks,

Interesting. Similar thing happened on the diesel Bora last year. Remote fob still works in the sense that you get the flashing red LED when you press the buttons, but the car itself doesn't respond, so it's key in the door time instead.

Haven't bothered trying to fix it. Doesn't affect fuel economy.
