Just a few minutes ago..The First ad I have ever seen for Cadillac cars on the telly in NZ. The dealer was Ebbett Cadillac. Ebbett have been a GM dealer for at least 50 years , so they may have sold a Cadillac before, but very few are about. The price was similar to a Chrysler 300 but I did not get the full details.

A bit more detail todayCadillac was to be re-launched in NZ and AUS this year, but things went wrong at GM. They then had 80 spare cars to get rid of. GM speak said "surplus to requirements"All are 2009 CTS 3.6 v6 with all the bells etc.Enter Ebbett.. they bought all 80 to NZ and have so far sold 14, for 22,000 pounds ea. instead of the retail price of 35,000.An EXPERT is saying "Don't buy an obscure make from a bankrupt company in the middle of a recession". I can see him being listened to!Ebbett's boss said they had a few sleepless nights after buying them too.

The dealers need worry no more. Not bad for a place with 1/4 the pop of London and a recession.

Well, from what I can make out the CTS is not a bad motor. Mind you, I hope the 3.6 V6 is better than the same unit I tried in a VZ Commodore a couple of years back, which felt bloody lethargic for the size. Might have something to do with the low octane rating of Aussie petrol though.

"Don't buy an obscure make from a bankrupt company in the middle of a recession"Why ever not?I'd argue Cadillac isn't an obscure make - ask any American to name five makes of car and 80% will have Cadillac in the list.GM is in financial trouble, but then most auto manufacturers are! Plus they will make very few of the parts themselves - everything will be sourced from specialist companies, the only real in-house stuff will be trim and panels which are easy to copy.There's as many parts on shelves for Rovers are there are for Fords, going bust doesn't make cars unrepairable.
