Are there any date codes on the battery? Could be just old and a cell inside has failed.

Tried jumping but leads couldmt cope. Had to buy a new one. Simple fixbut expensive.

If it lost a cell then the jump leads would be trying to power the entire car. Also it could have damaged your alternator when you disconnected them due to lack of load. So not a bad decision to replace it.

 

If you have a multimeter, it'd be worth double checking it's putting out ~14v when running. Preventative maintenance to save killing the battery if the alternator is dicky.

It didnt even give enough power to turn starter with leads on mate.
