Isaac Hunt Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Two extremes with non car people who have an old car. Considered either a load of old rubbish that needs scrapped even if it's mint or a sure fire valuable classic worth loads even if it's hanging.Paradoxical innit, your non-car enthusiast has an oldish motor with a problem, gets Quote from local garage that comes to about as much as the car is worth (clutch supply and fit, new discs and pads and a MOT) and weighs it in. Then the exact same model is on Gumtree, a right shed that needs even more spending on it but it is a classic ennit mate so it's up for 3/4 of its value despite needing 5/4 of its value spending on it, but it will suit an enthusiast.
sierraman Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 First car sounds ready for scrapyard. Clutch, brakes and test out. Easily £6-700 worth of work there at a garage. Just depends what the circumstances are at the time, there’s some cracking cars about for less than a grand. People do frequently overestimate how good their car is, perfect example is something like a Mondeo with a bollocksed clutch that I saw other week, 52 plate I think it was, the guy wanted £400 for it, which is what it was worth without a fucked clutch, so by rights that’s a £1000 car before you’ve found all the other shit that inevitably up with it.
