Is the MG a former Testr car? I've got a Top Gear Mag from 1996 where they drive the MGF and they all have SAC plates

Oh, and my boss was the PR manager for Rover at the time of the MGF launch. He assures me it's not a press car, but is one of the first batch of Rover management company cars. It's chassis number 276 if anyone apart from me is boring enough to care.I just find it funny that the number plate contains the medical term for either a scrotum or something that contains pus.

Original early 190E

The thing I love most about my 190E is that its a basic unmodified one with proper hubcaps (not those horrid alloys that look like hubcaps) and none of the silly plastic body mouldings they put on the bottom of later ones to make them look 'Phat'. It's a genuinely lovely, unmessed with car.Alas, it will be going up for sale very soon (the Bluebird is its replacement, as it has a towbar) as it's worth nearly two mortgage payments - £995 ono if anyone's interested.

I wish you had my mortgage too! Although having just worked it out I'm applying the same mathematical logic as I do when I tell my wife how much the latest car cost... Make that one and a third mortgage payments if it makes you feel any better.

I would say that the only thing I don't dig about the Min is the Cooper stripes and the spotlights-other than that its spot-on, you don't have any arches which I like but I reckon you're running 12s?

I went there when I was at uni in 1997 to do a summer's work experience - I had a blue Allegro 1.3, long since expired. A year later when I graduated the publishers gave me a job on Classic Car Weekly, where I stayed for quite a while before a brief spell with Land Rover Owner and eight years writing about new cars for Auto Express, where my nickname was Mister Shitter. I hope it referred to the cars I drove.

Nothing wrong with a name that includes Mr and Shit! I remember you because we are about the same age and I would've loved to have done that, Practical Classics was really good in the mid to late nineties then it started being lazy with 'Best starter classic for £3000' every issue

They seemed to think everyone should own a sodding MGB, Spitfire or Morris Minor.Now buying a classic for £300 would still be based on the same idea I guess but at least actually doing it and buying a selection of £300 shitters would involve some effort.When you're talking about spending £3,000-£6,000 its take your pic from the classifieds its not hard to buy a classic for that sort of muller I'm sure all of us could come up with a list as long as your arse, obviously my first choice would be a Barkas .

If I had £3000 to spend in the classifieds I'd buy a car for every day of the week, and I'd end up owning seven diversely shitty cars. Oh, hang on a minute...Ironically car eight (not worthy of mention on Autohsite for at least another 10 years) is an '09 Astra company car, meaning that I don't even need a car for each day of the week, much to the relief of Mrs C, who as a teacher in the local school would be mortified if she had to drive in each day in the Bedford. She runs the MG, so you see, only five of the fleet are redundant and costing me money.

My normal daily driver was out of service, not a problem I thought I'll just use one of the other five...out of six cars the only car I could reliably use for work was the campervan!You work for Vauxhall Heritage you say? I used to work for the local Vauxhall dealer and used to deal with a nice chap at Vauxhall Heritage called Peter, I expect he's probably rotting away between Manta fuel tanks as we type. They did use to send out some nice calenders though.

Maybe I should have explained. She won't drive the Bluebird because it's green. She's banned from driving the Mercedes because it's too nice to park outside a secondary school lest the three-pointed star ends up round some scrote's neck, the Land Rover needs 'persuasion' to get it to start and Mrs C's not too hot when it comes to float chambers, the Mini is garaged in a different town to the one we live in and the P6 needs to warm up before you can get it into gear. As mechanical sympathy isn;t her strong point, that leaves the Bedford.

I deeply envy all of you who have the space and wherewithall to own more than one vehicle. My 1st choice from that lot would be the P5, by miles. Then the Bluebird. None of the others appeal to me very much.

All of my vehicles combined are worth less than one year's depreciation on a modern...As for storage, all you need is a library car park!
