We've just returned from a weekend in Amsterdam, and we were mightily impressed!! Quite appart from the obvious attractions everyone goes to see, it's the most beautiful city I've ever been to, we can VERY highly recomend it. AND, there's loads of lovely old motors!!!! I couldn't believe just how many there are- took lots of pics (might not get all loaded today) and missed even more!!

Where to start? Do we like Mercs?

These are everywhere

I was amazed by how many Fiat 500s there are. Though, having said that, they are wonderfully practical transport around a city like Amsterdam

Look closely- there's actually TWO 500s here

The only way to travel- just don't tell the health and safety Nazis!! 8)

What's the significance of the badging on this minter?

The Nuova ( Wopspeak for "new") 500, introduced in 1957, resembled the former 500 only in its dimensions. A rear-mounted 2 pot air cooled engine replaced the front-mounted watercooled 4 banger of the old car.

We went to Amsterdam three summers ago, and two of those cars were there then!

The double headed 500s is a brilliant shot - could almost have come from one of Fiat's 70's brochures!

The black one is a rare pre 65 suicide door model - totally lovely

I love Amsterdam :D

Great photos. Will have to put that in a cross channel itinerary sometime as Mrs_Seth would rather enjoy seeing all the 500s!

Quite fancy going to Amsterdam, Went there last year for about a hour due to the plane tranfers on the way to the philippines so i never got to see much, Although the bar in the Airport selling heineken was a winner!.

Love the Fiat 500's, Suicide doors FTW!

Thanks, I never knew that!! Learn something new every day! And, to my shame, I hadn't even noticed that it has suicide doors!!:oops: It's really striking just how small 500s are whan you see them parked in amongst modern cars.

Thanks for the comments, glad you're liking. Ran out of time yesterday, so here's the last batch of pics. These all Citroens of one sort or another.

H van holding it's own in the traffic. Just when did they stop making these?

Posted Image

Slightly more recent van, but don't see many these days

Posted Image

Surprisingly, the only 2CV we saw. Any thoughts on why the Fiat 500 appears to have sold so many more than the 2CV?

Posted Image

Also, the only Ami we saw- and VERY nearly missed it- photographed from one of the cruise boats on the canals

Posted Image

XMs still seem to be pretty common- can't remember the last time I saw one over here.

Posted Image

And, I don't think I even knew that there was an estate version!

Posted Image

Scruffy, yet still classy!!

Posted Image

I was hoping to see a DS or two whilst we were there, and was disapointed that the 1st 2 I saw I was unable to photograph- one too close (right next to the bus we were on) and one too far away. Then, this beauty passed our bus whilst it was stationary, but I still almost missed it!

Posted Image

Then, on our final stroll around before catching the train back to Schipol, we came across this beauty... forgive the indulgence of multiple pics, but I just love these things!!

Well, that's all I have to offer for now. But, we WILL be going back, just wish it could be this weekend!! What a wonderful place it is!

Oh, just one more pic- also taken through a bus window, of one of Amsterdam's other attractions!!!

Ah yes, cycling  What a pity that young lass walked into the picture just as you were taking a photo of some class two-wheeled shite :D

That particular HY is from 1975, imported in 1990.I think originally 2CVs sold slightly better than 500s here (and 600s better than 500s); 9 out of 10 500s I see nowadays are imports, as opposed to about half of the 2CVs. Both have a strong following and are fooking expensive, still most of the owners let them rot between restorations... Somehow younger cars like XMs started to be cheap to lease a few years ago and they are imported by the hundreds, still most of the owners... Re the last pic: I know that guy!
