Jesus! Bad Talbot Sunbeam rally crash!

This is the terrifying moment a rally drivers helmet is ripped off as his car flips at 115mph.

Darren Pools Talbot Sunbeam was caught in a gust of wind as it went over a small jump, spun five times then went head over heels twice.

But by a miracle Darren, 35, suffered only minor cuts and co-driver Chris Beer, 37, escaped with bruises to his face. One of Darrens arms can even be seen dangling out of the window as the drama unfolded in front of his horrified family on Sunday morning.

The battered car eventually came to a halt 150 yards from the tracks at the RDP Welsh Rally at Epynt in mid Wales. Rescuers rushed over fearing he and Chris were dead.

Mechanic Darren, from Exeter, Devon, said: I was going over a jump Id done about 25 times before but this time for some reason we lost our line while we were in the air.

There was a gust of wind and we realised we were coming down all wrong. The car landed in a ditch and just started rolling over and over.

I guess the crash helmet wasn't on tightly enough then? Surely it shouldn't come off!Shame about the sunbeam.

crash helmets do come off happened to my mate when he was racing his reliant he used to wear an open face jobby so he could climb in and out the window quicker as he was well known for rolling it after he won his race always crowd pleasing lol he was cornering at about 45 when the car rolled must of rolled about 8 times as it was a reliant there wasnt much left of it and his helmet was found at the side of the track with snapped buckle

Got to thank his lucky stars that he had a decent cage in there as they're not the most structurally sound vehicles in the world.A mate of mine used to have links to Skip Brown back in the day when they did parts and work on these and a common complaint was that the front strut braces were too narrow. They used to have to point out that because of the tissue paper construction that the front ends had a habit of splaying significantly from stock :?
