Now i,ve done a couple of niggling jobs on my Renault 25 2 jobs are left...Firstly my radio is at the time a fancy jobbie with slider graphics etc and its a brick of a stereo big thing, same as fitted to late GTA,SIts never worked correctly, but after messing with it again tonight,i now know it works fine on LW/MW but won,t work at all on FM,so i guess this rules an aerial problem out??,its the second unit i,ve fitted, the first did exactly the same, but any clue why it doesn,t work on FM only??Second question is is it possible(or cheap)to convert the A/C conectors for a regas to R134A type from R12(1989 car)i DOUBT the A/C will work, but when i turn it on the pump kicks in,and i can get it gassed for free at work, but we don,t have the connectors on the machine, any ideas??

MW and LW dont take much to pick up a signal, just think of a portable radio at home etc, you only need to put the aerial up for FM.Same in the car, if it's a roof mount remove it and clean all the connections, including where it earths to the panel. A smear of vaseline should stop it corroding again. If all else fails, replace the aerial.Converting to R134a is expensive, I heard one bloke paid a grand to have it done because he was told you can't get the old gas any more.Get in touch with your local domestic/commercial refridgeration specialist, they have the correct gas and charge about £40 for a re gas.

Get 'em to do a vac check on the a/c first before having any expensive work done. My pump kicks in fine but there's a big leak somewhere. Agreed that R12 > R134A conversions are pricey; the newer gas eats at the seals. I just open a window as it's cheaper

Yep i think i,am going for the windows open option,to many people have told me its costly...i only use the car on nice days and its garaged all the other time, anyway i prefer to drive with the windows down to listen to the huge Turbo whistle!!As for the radio,i,il check and clean the base etc, might even buy new as they are cheap enough.

Your average modern service garage that does air-con regassing only does R134a as you've found out. You can get what is refered to as a 'drop-in' or RS-24 but I would say one of those mobile hair-con chaps would be your best bet as hair-con is their speciality rather than offering it on the side like some cheap rumpy with next-door-but-one.I had a drop-in used on the Honda Legend about three years ago and it worked fine-obviously older cars air-con systems aren't as efficient as the modern stuff. To me drop-in sounds like you're having a shit, just me like.:lol:

The Fiesta Ghia I sold earlier this year was one of the examples Ford built for about 6 months in 1986 with a weird spec including a super hi-tech (for '86) self-seek radio cassette unit with four speakers and balance/fade joystick control; unfortunately the cheap bastards deleted the FM option for some unexplained reason. I had to use one of those tape adaptors with headphone jack plugged into a little battery radio to get FM on the move.
