I get this impression that in the rarity stakes, the ROFLian climbs a tall ladder, get's it's wang out and pisses thoroughly into the faces of both the Talbot Tagora AND Renault 14....

Indeed it's not! The IPTOC struggles to do that for Piazza Turbos and they number in their twenties!

Last time I could get the drums off but yesterday I couldn't even manage that... not enough muscle power. Time I get it to a garage. Plans are now:

-order wings & valance from the US

-have them painted and fitted (I can't do it myself on the balcony & have no experience)

-drive to garage

-let them work on the brakes, fluid changes and MoT

-drive the thing!

Last time I swapped a dead bulb for a new one and then they were both out, yesterday they worked fine without me doing anything to them:

Put two new lights on the outside (they were nice old Marchals but one thought it was a fish bowl for the last couple of years), reconnected the inner ones that come on on high beam; they are sealed beams and one was dead as well, so I swapped one for an old Marchal to check and they all work now. Next time I'll put new ones on the inside too.

Then I drove around for a bit on the parking lot while listening to Jarvis Cocker on the BBC world service - radio works, and makes everything sound like it's the fifties again!

Update: wings etc for the Flo arrived from the US today (via UK and Germany... I hope they travelled well). Plans are to pick them up tomorrow, treat them to some kind of anti-rust stuff on the inside, put the left one on and then to the garage for a bit of welding and an MoT deo volente - two week 'holiday' coming up so plenty of time to do some washing and polishing after it's legal to drive. Can't wait!

I love the look of this car - nice one michiel!

This ROFLian is a remarkable vehicle, from some angles its really very pretty, but from others its damn fugly TBH. I would love one! can someone lob up some photos of the later one with the hideous grille like a Panther Rio please? THX

Tah Dar..

Yee Haa thanks for this! You've just solved a 'what's that car?' mystery for me running since last November when I saw a silver one of these during my 2nd Maltese holiday! :D Thought it was some old Toyota, it wasn't badged AFAIK, either that or I just couldn't read it!

Yes, just checked the pictures, it's definitely one of those! Pictures ain't the greatest as it was dark but they're adequate. Going back to stay at the same location in November so will look out for it & see if I can get better pictures

 One of the wheel cylinders is bust, housing broke, visited a guy who owned/owns lots of Isuzus who told me he'd never seen this type on a Florian and sold me cylinders that should fit with some work... mechanic just told me no way, too big in all aspects. Anyone (Nigel?) recognise these Akebono things, any tips maybe? They might be related to old Austin items apparently. Don't know the dimensions unfortunately...

Pity its bust-could have been 'rebuilt'by Past parts. Might still be able-if push comes to shove..keep all the pieces -for nowLooks similar to 60's Uk stuff-Minor, or perhaps a bit bigger.Give me dimensions-put a ruler besides the piccies- we'll sort it.In the meantiime-molegrip the flexi -probably shagged anyway-to keep a brake pedal.Use my email address if it helps..

Car's still at the garage, as are the remains... that was stupid! I'll see if I can get the dimensions from the mechanic asap.

Looks very similar Morris Minor-but 'perhaps' bigger. Therefore (easily available/adaptable) -try MGB rears or other B series cars.Had a look at my Dattie stuff-plenty of fronts- no rears- but they do look smaller.Let me know-when you can..

Cool, MGB rears look awfully similar. I'm waiting for measurements from the mechanic and tips from an Aussie owner, we will find a way!

Edit: Mechanic drew me a picture! I'm not very technical myself, so I'll leave the interpretation of this artwork to you guys... Diameter of the cylinder itself is 25mm.

Panic over now, turns out early LUVs used the same cylinder... purchased one just now, so sit back and wait time. And give wrong cylinders back in return for (quite a bit of) cash hopefully. I did buy nice NEW IN BOX rear lights as well by the way, so I haz a semi-happy.

Here are said boxes + content:

They will probably stay in these lovely boxes till I die...

Someone was still keeping hold of new parts for a super-obscure car nearly forty years after it was built? I am impressed. Well done for tracking them down!

Posted

Not cheap though... bit of an odd fellow who's had, sold and lost dozens of Isuzus (including several Florian wagons!) - he bought the spares from the import firm when they quit, still has 7 or 8 unrestored Belletts (ranging from nice to wrecky).

Rear light lenses are my favourite spare parts. Something so scrummy about them.

Brand new rear light clusters remind me somehow of the colours you used to get in sweet shop jars :) Mmmm

dear god what a find! I would have just assumed they would be 100% unfindable. Nice one

yeah me too, first thing i used to do to my old golfs was buy new lights, tidy up the car no-end

I can't wait for the wheel cylinder to arrive - it's getting close to 'the' show for old J-tin in Holland... tension rises. I wanna drive it!!

Yes top rear light 'eye candy' for me were the rear lights of early Peugeot 309s & late 505 saloons! With the strip of orange, & strip of red sandwiching the strip of white reverse in the middle, in my warped mind they reminded me of those lollies you got given free from Little Chefs, that had the white (sherbet?) centres encapsulated in transparent orange or red (strawberry) exteriors. If you looked it it from the top, the white centre was exposed hence you had the rear lights of the Peugeots!:lol:

I'm a blind idiot. Had I checked the pics better, I would have noticed the cylinder I waited for to arrive (which it did pretty quickly) was the same as the one I bought before (and thankfully returned, money back), not the same as the one I needed. Aargh... luckily an Australian guy seems to have the right ones on an old Florian. More patience needed...
