noseypoke Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 It's typical Rip-Off.....When you start 18-19years old.(OH YOUR NOT EXPERIENCED)...Scandalous Premium....20-50years old...Scandalous Premiums(OH THE COST OF SPARES AND REPAIRS + YOUR POST CODE IN A BAD AREA)50-HEAVEN year olds, TOTAL 100% discounts...But your TOO old, your post code is NOW a bad area even tho you've got 200 years NCB,never made a claim.....we still wanna slice of ya MONEY (for our SHAREHOLDERS.) I've said for years now that there should be a UK NATIONAL INSURANCE COMPANY,backed by the Government, even if only Third Party Fire + Theft.....with a yearly payment/PREMIUM of maybe £100...on the lines of the tv licencing. For one thing the Crash for Cash and all the scammers would be Automatically investigated by HMG officials because they are ripping off the PUBLIC PURSE.RANT OVER
stephen01 Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Insurance for the Mondongo went up by £50 when we moved from quiet* Martlesham to Felixstowe, barely 11 miles away.#nothappy *There was a murder 200 yds from my old gaff in Martlesham, so not exactly crime free My insurance on my CRV was due for renewal on the 24 as we were movin on the 28 I let it lapse as I couldn't be arsed sorting an address change over, my insurance has gone from 400 quid to over 800 quid, (before shopping about quotes were 1100 quid, or 800 with a black box, get in the sea I'm 33 not 17, I've been driving 14 years, no claims, 7 years no claims, 14 as a named driver. my new house is about 500 yards away from my old house so not exactly a different crime area. I've shopped around spoken to brokers etc but still ended up paying over 750 quid for insurance. the wife, who has just had a non fault claim insures a brand new 26K Nissan leaf at the same house for 300 quid, also my clio is 220 quid with zero NCD at the same house! its absolutely crazy.
barefoot Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 It's all to do with 'new business'. Writing new is perceived as better than retaining old.In the good old days when I was the man from the pru, before fsa financial services act, we'd nip round, spend an hour over a cup of tea surrendering a £5 pm policy and selling a new £7 pm policy.Used to be called surrender and replace and was the norm until the act when it suddenly became 'churning'.Presumably the premiums are raised by all the companies across the board to encourage people to buy 'new'.Total bollocks, but it appears to be the entire basis of our service industry based economy.Imagine how much confused must be making to run the ad with the spinning merc at every break of an evening. Then imagine how much market share insurance company X would have if they were to reward loyalty.A solid customer base and minimal admin and advertising/marketing costs would lead to cheaper and cheaper premiums. A total fucking winner. There must be some kind of industry agreement in place to prevent a company doing this, they'd clean up overnight.
puddlethumper Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Just renewed. The year before last I was with Flux. Last year hertz was cheaper. This year Flux was cheaper. Wondering if Hertz will be cheaper next year. Odd, if not a bit fishy, to my cynical brain cell.
JayW Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 NCD IS WORTHLESS when you get to my age (though possibly not just MY age). I have two lots of NCD, one is for 6 years, one is for 7 years. In the past couple of years, I've run quotes for 20-30 motors for whatever reason. On every occasion applying my NCD made little or no difference whatsoever. My van, no NCD = £190 per annum... With 7NCD = £190. 306 Cabby without £210, with £210. All my classics, NCD irrelevant, both in earning NCD (obviously) and it's impact on premiums. It's all horseshit. Always be aware of using your NCD on the right policy if you have multiple cars!
PiperCub Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 So just redone our insurance. The wife as main on the golf estate with me as named. Then me on the fiesta with her as named. Admiral were 980 last year. Renewal quote of 1160! Nothing has changed on the policy! I remember the year before last th is the reason we left admiral as renewal was ridiculous. After a year away the auote from them was by far the best so we went back, only to be treated to this again. Now have the same insurance as before for both of us, then managed to get a 50 quid discount on RAC breakdown (personal) with uk recovery etc for both of us. So All for just over 900 quid. Anyone have any idea or experience with admiral hiking prices up after the first year? Just find it very strange Yes, that's what happened to me last April, had a m/car policy but only the 406 on it, came in (compo) at about £295. I queried this, instantly dropped to £217. WTF? Why was I not offered this in the first place? Probably hoping I'd be one of those mugs who just renew 'cos they are 'Too busy, being busy, with my busy-ness'. Or more likey, too fecking lazy. This pissed me off so much I binned them off and went elsewhere. Shame as otherwise a reasonable (as far as it goes with insurance companies in general) to deal with. Will try them again next month when current hack/daily policy is up for renewal. As others have said - brand loyalty is not rewarded now, it's punished (ie: as above, they take you for a mug).
