If they are anything like the one that came on a Passat I bought years ago, the smell of super-cheap Chinese PVC/ plastic/ imitation leather* is so overpowering, you'll feel dizzy after a few minutes!

That looks very much like the one that was on my 75.  Yesterday I drove it to Preston, having used it for commuting for a couple of days, all after whipping the cover off to reveal the slightly scruffy rim beneath.  My hands are ok so far, so it's looking like the cover may have been the problem all this time.
