A clean looking car, especially in metallic brown on the 4-spoke alloys with the pleated velour. And look at all the Taunus 80s in the opening shot!

Compared with the Mark 2 Escort and Aggro/Marina, the Kadett was like something from outer space. They really were an outstanding effort - the 1300S was seemingly the fastest car on earth at the time.

Not for 900 quid! A touch salty for me.

Thinking about it, £900 is probably quite reasonable but the trouble is, we all remember them as £250 cars!  I do love the 90s MoT quality* patching on the sill though, covered in black rather than body colour, natch.

The interior is pure WIN.

 

 

Edit- just realised it has the 1300cc OHC engine of awesomeness as the Rev says.  It's also a 3dr.. gahh! What's not to like?

This is true.  They do seem to be very thin on the ground now though, I predict a rise in values soon!

The OMGGTEs are valuable now.  A really, really grim one made £1800 on ebay last week- bring a dustpan and brush job..

True, and you get a better car. The Mark 3 Escort wasn't a patch on the Astra.

It went for 1080.  I bid on it, but then, like a welching fuckah, obtained the seller's permission to cancel the bid, to save me from a massive pummelling by Mrs BV.  I really liked the look of the car!  The basicness of the thing, the groovy orange seats, and the prospect of blatting about with a buzzy little engine in what is I assume a lightweight car.

That's well worth it - as said, a mechanically not as good mk3 Escort would've gone for a lot more thanks to scene tax - the mk1/2/3 are basically the same car only with upgraded front suspension/subframe.

I reckon that 1300 could have become an Autoshite treasure, and maybe even a less rusty successor to the 1300 Betakoop of much dreadfulness; and I wish that I had bought it, but the marital strife would not have been worth it.
