Thunder Races (TV series)

Anyone remember a TV series called Thunder Races, made for Discovery in 2002 and now being shown on Quest? The premise is very similar to Scrapheap Challenge: 3 teams are given a challenge, £800 to buy a car and 2 days to modify it. It's chock full of old chod - Orions, Astras, breadvan Polos and a Pug 405 are the main vehicles I've seen so far but there's loads of other goodies in the background. It must have been filmed not far from me as in one episode they end up at Grendon Garage in Grendon Underwood, where one team buy a roadworthy XR2 from the banger section for a few hundred quid and proceed to chop it into an off-roader! How times have changed...

I used to watch this if a morning at 6 a couple of months ago.

Presenter is a bit of a douche but really good program.

An 'old' Astra GTE and an 'old' mk2 Cavalier SRi gets cut up. Apparently the 130bhp in the SRi was 'slow'!! Shows how much worth these cars had in late 90's early 2000's. GR8 for chod viewing.

I recall reading someones blog about "starring" on that, IIRC the car was a fiat Uno or something.

 

Basically there was a lot of "behind the scenes" work that went off - they had a couple of days to build the cars on the show, in the warehouse, then they could take them home for a week to actually finish them off somewhat properly before the actual races, obviously they couldn't make any obvious alterations.
