Vince70 Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 After seeing six cylinders post the other day about his E36 needed some welding work I thought I better look underneath mine to see if I could find some rot and this is what I found. The back jacking points are still like new but the front 2 have just started to rust under the jacking point covers so while at it I thought I better get the spoilers off and the jacking covers off to look under them. The sills are still like new luckily but I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to stop the rot.I went over the area with a wire wheel and it's still solid with no holes etc but now since I've been over the area with the wire wheel all its done is made the rust glossy looking and the rust is still there but the metal is extremely sold and wondered what's the best solution with dealing with it and what to coat it with so it doesn't get any worse. All I've done at the moment is soak it in krust. sierraman Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 A £5 on some underbody shutz and then £3.50 on the protection wax they do at Toolstation. You could spend hundreds on niche rustproofers but what I've told you above will stop any further corrosion. Get all the crusty stuff off first though. Six-cylinder and Vince70 2
Jifflemon Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Vactan for the rust. Dinitrol 3125 for inside the cavitys. One of those plastic hockey puck things that fits the jacking point and stops your trolly jack from doing further damage Vince70 1
