Van alarm recommendation

Recommended Posts

I had my work van broken into last week, in a good* area of Sheffield in broad daylight.

There was a similar incident today on the road where I'm working.

I'm going to armour the locks but I was thing about fitting a simple alarm, like the 'sonic' ones from the 80's / 90's, any recommendations?

I think armouring the locks is a spot on idea.

An alarm is only any good if You are in earshot. No one else will bat an eyelid.

Was it a Transit by any chance?

Is it a transit? They probably just bought a tibbee key off ebay or amazon and unlocked it.

About the best you can do lock wise is fit those dead locks to the top and bottom of the rear and side door so they can't just bend the top of the door over if they can't open the main lock.

Fitting a security cage inside the van or over the inside of the doors is another.

A friend had the back door lock cut out of his VW transporter with a holesaw on a busy main road outside the site he was working on - they did 5 vans the same way on the street.

IF you can remember to disarm it an alarm mine rigged up to the doors would be more satisfying than a car alarm. Or some of those 120db train horns running from the curtesy light switch?

I have a mate in Chesterfield who had his van broken into recently. They bent the corner of the sliding door down enough to climb in and away with his tools. The alarm didn't go off as the door wasn't technically open. Something to bear in mind.

I think I may have seen that!

It's a Toyota, they used a screwdriver down the side of the handle on the sld to open it. I'm thinking a loud alarm in the back of the van, it would stop the daylight chancers.
