How long is it till you feel you've had value?

I killed off this equation a long time ago in my head. I figured, drive something till it stops, then replace. I found myself running around picking up £200 chod all over the place, getting lifts, break downs, recovery costs, tax costs, and realised it was more expensive than just putting a set of part worn tyres on the car I was using. Then I thought about buying one nice car, but I realised that I needed various cars to do various things. If I'd saved up I could have had my r34 gtr by now, but that's all I'd have, and miss out on all the fun of a £125 Peugeot. I tried a soulless car to see if I could cope, and about 6 weeks with a sdi golf put an end to that and I started driving a mini with three 10" and one 12" wheel.

So now value is thrown out. I just buy what I like, and keep it and maintain it as best I can, within reasonable cost and time considerations. Value only comes into it if you're not keeping it.
