Partridge Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Useful, thanks, may try it on mine. You've got nothing to lose if it breaks again, so why not try it? DeeJay 1
Fat_Pirate Posted August 19, 2017 Author Posted August 19, 2017 I've not updated this thread because the car has been tediously reliable - but that's to be expected of a 21 year-old British car, I suppose... In reality, it has been developing minor faults but I've been ignoring them. I had a car full of people a while back and they received the full 'Jaguar' experience of doors and windows that functioned only randomly, which was embarrassing. It's now due a MOT too so I've spent a few days fixing all the issues. These anti-roll bar bushes would probably upset the MOT man, but they were only about £1.50 each to replace. I was getting an occasional ABS warning light, but I think I've found the culprit. How did this even work? Both the fronts were like it.After cleaning:The iffy windows all responded to copious amounts of silicon spray, and white grease sorted the door mechanisms. The unreliable boot release button was due to a duff microswitch - grafting in a £2.50 generic one from Maplin sorted that.It seems solid underneath, in fact the jacking points are sound enough to use! This is a rare and desirable feature in X300 land. I changed the diff oil while it was on stands, which was a major faff as the drain plug was rounded off. It took more than an hour to siphon the old oil out with a syringe from the fill hole, and after all that the oil looked fine anyway. I went and bought a fuck-off big Draper siphon tool to fill it back up again. It's always suffered a gentle knocking noise from the rear suspension, but turning up the radio provided a workaround fix. I was expecting to find a worn bush, but it was actually the metal fuel lines - they'd come away from a clip. I reckon it should be good for MOT now, and I've even polished it. The paintwork is still shite, but it's very shiny shite. Heidel_Kakao, beko1987, RobT and 8 others 11
