Faker Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I've a mate with an old golf running a pierburg carb. He's had nothing but trouble trying to get it to run. Google rummage shows that a Weber is the way forward. New 32/34 direct replacement is nearly costing the price of his car! Any shitter advice ref sourcing a budget replacement weber. Is there a second hand carb from another marque or or vehicle application that can fit? Just putting it out there!
steveo3002 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 was one on facebook for £30 the other day ....used ones often come up for around £100 the carb itself was fitted to several models with different jetting , its the adaptor kit thats the alkward bit and costly to get hold of, and makes buying random carbs hard work id hold out for the proper kit myself ..and make sure the adaptors are with it spike60 and Faker 2
mercrocker Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 If, as I did, your mate finds himself with the Hobson's choice of having to get the Pooburg repaired, Bromyard VW is your man. Not cheap but my T25 is running as well as these things ever do since he wove his magic. Getting a Weber to breathe and run properly as a conversion is something I particularly would never choose to do again but I may have been unlucky (it was all pre-X flow Ford stuff admittedly). Google Bromyard and give him a call - he is proper old school and very meticulous in his dealings. Faker 1
steveo3002 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 the golf /polo kits run like a top...super easy to tune etc how much does your guy charge to refurb a pooburg?
primeradoner Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Ive got a 32/34 webercarb that was fitted to a VW so its got the correct throttle linkage. Ive also got a weber to pierberg adaptor plate but its currently fitted to a small block vauxhall manifold and im not sure if its the same as a VW one. I will have a look when im over at my lockup on saturdayEdit Just remembered that the vauxhall manifold originally had a pierberg 2e3 carb on it so if your mates VW has the 2e3 fitted then ive got the full kit for the conversion Faker 1

Won't get much change out of £400 I shouldn't think. Like I say, expensive! Having said that the T25 config is a bit of an arse, it might possibly be cheaper.... ~Edit - I forgot to factor in the amount of rolling road time I used up setting up Webers! When I got my Pooburg back it went straight on (no adjustments) and had already been tested on a mule engine.

primeradoner Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Just an update on this. Ive been over to my unit today and can confirm that as well as the carb ive got the all important base adaptor. Ive also got the air filter adaptor which may/may not fit depending on which air filter is fitted to your car. Most people fit a K & N filter anyway. The only things I havent got is the insulated base gasket which are about a tenner from burtons and the manual choke cable. I would like £100 for the lot and am willing to post at cost.Regards Fin Faker 1
Faker Posted October 25, 2016 Author Posted October 25, 2016 My mate has gone and bought a completely new set up. Sorry. But thanks for your help.
primeradoner Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 no problem it can sit on the shelf until someone needs it
