Holy thread resurrection !

Bit of an update - car needed a damper for an MOT in November. It has also had a brake calliper even though the one on the car was less than 12 months old - some gorilla cross threaded the bleed nipple when bleeding the brakes after fitting.

Two brand new Chinese death rings (19") off ebay cost £75 delivered.

Today I have replaced air, pollen and diesel filters - the diesel filter was a PITA - I needed my brake bleeder to pull diesel through before it would start - there is only one pump on these - in the tank.

Tomorrow I will change the oil and filter - a special tool is required for the 3.0 to undo the housing - which I don't have so I will improvise.

The oil and filters came to £72 - that includes the oil being £12 ( half price) for 4 litres - I need two.

Lets see how things turn out...

Can you fill the filter bowl with diesel when you put it back together? Saves a load of effort trying to get fuel through from the tank, or at least it did on my Signum.

These engines weren't great in the Vel Satis although some guys did ok with them. I wanted that diesel engine but chickened and got the Vel 3.5. I could never get how Izuzu failed with that engine.  Implementation by manufacturers as suggested, seems to make a difference.  Seemingly though, the later incarnations of that engine were changed to solve this issue?  Nice package that in the Vectra..........and a manual estate? Winner!

I was advised that to remove the oil filter I would need one of these -

All I can say is that it is utter bollocks. My trusty chain managed to get it undone. The old filter had been in a while - all the rubber had gone hard and brittle - the seals fell apart.

Two 4l jugs of halfords finest went in. Car drives better than before - I think it picks up more smoothly than it did.

The underside is rust free and surprisingly, for a vauxhall, the engine is oil tight.
