Engine enema

one wonders whether an wallpaper steamer may be appropriate?

why even consider it when the engine will do it for you ....its the extreme temps and pressures that do the cleaning , i cannot imagine wafting a bit of steam in there will do a fraction of the cleaning

if a bit of water then a can of inj cleaner in the tank and a good thrash up the road folwed by a good service doesnt fix it then its time for a strip down and repair , buggered if i would spend 100-150 on miricle treatments , theres no way they will clean the valve backs etc apart from the walnut shell blasting they do on minis

Why would water clean carbon deposits?

When I went to school, our chemistry teacher always told us 'like substances dissolve like substances'.

So to dissolve an oil based product, use a more refined oil based product.  Water and oil doesn't mix.

The best value product out there at the minute is from www.tech-4.co.uk

No association, I just buy their products regularly, both for trade and personal use.

doesnt disolve it , id imagine its more like a steam explosion that blasts it off

same with solvent stuff you put through the fuel system , okay it can clean the injectors but how will clean the valves and ports when its burnt almost completely  ?   not arguing just a discussion :)

I sell a petrol fuel additive and a different one for diesel which is GUARANTEED to increase the kilometres per litre (miles per gallon), you just add it in the specified ratio of 1:10 at every fuel up and drive normally and you have a GUARANTEED increase of milage/kilometerage of 9%.   Independent scientific test results available. Obviously I cannot sell it via Autoshite quality forums.

I'm entirely unconvinced by this pouring a thimbleful of water in the air intake and hey presto valves ports and combustion chambers steam cleaned instantly.

Haven't see a proper test case of:

engine strip...photograph carbon built up over 80+ thousand miles

reassemble engine as is

run engine warm drizzle a cup of water in

strip engine be dazzled by reflections of sparkling clean innards

Just because a head gasket leak has cleaned the carbon from a path of direct steam cleaning (as it were) over a possible 10k period,  doesn't mean 3 minutes of water addition is going to give the same result over the whole inlet and combustion area.

Unless someone can point us to a case proved worth checking out, i still reckon its a bloody good hoot to see how many daft buggers follow.

Surely you're risking hydraulic'ing the engine by putting water into the combustion process?

Again, from my Chemistry lessons; water is a frictionless solid at that temp.

I'm not out to start a fight, just to debate and prevent someone from destroying their engine.

doesnt claim to do the whole inlet and ports...just the chamber really

If there was a slight chance it was valid then every engine manufacturer would have used it from the year dot. Do your annual engine water injection clean up as part of your dealer service routine, rev the bollocks out of it, slowly pour in a cup of tap water that'll be $150 and a dealer stamp for Sir (Madam) ?
