Found a cheap runner for No:2 daughter to get her back on the road. Didn't want her in anything to small and flimsy- anyone notice 106's and Saxo's are making a bit of a comeback?- anyway, off today and sun was shining so firstly a wee trip to the station in the Volvo.Hoping not to come back to any door dings- It doesn't get parked in busy car parks normally, but there was 1 space in the entire station..

Stuck my card in the ticket machine as I'd booked online. It spat it back out so I had to Q at the window as the machine had done a Renault. What was the point of booking online exactly? Anyway, on the train, which was empty, and left Cair Chaladain ( WTF is all that about.??)

Quick and painless change over at Haymarket, after grabbing a coffee and a piece. This cost exactly four times what I once paid for a classic Saab 900. Paper was free though.

Got to Glasgow central, nipped to the cash dispenser and withdrew the purchase price, and a wee bit extra for fuel, looked at the big board, which told me to go to platform 12. Which I did.

Settled down for the last leg of the trip, when the ticket lady informed me I was on the wrong train. Arse. Must be a Glasgow thing but they hide one train behind another... they look like it's one big train, but it's 2 little ones. That Glesga sense of humour :?

Anyway, after a hurried stroll through sunny Paisley, and a trip over a speed bump which ignited that humour again... was told, loudly from a fair distance away, "an ah thot Michael Jackson was deed?" :-D

On the right train at the other station and off at the final destination. Port Glasgow. Which seems to be carved out of a cliff. after about 200 stairs, I had to stop for a fag,I was that out of breath. about 378 steps later I got to the address, filled out a form, handed over some 20's and got the keys to this.

No pez shots as it didn't need any.. Gearbox bearings are noisy, front crossmember is rotten, but otherwise it's perfect, genuine 51k miles. No knocks, bangs squeaks or rattles...just a howl on and off the power, but quiet with the clutch in. Gears engage perfectly, and stay in, and clutch is spot on. Couple of months MOT, so will get it fettled and up to scratch

Anyone got a 'box for one? 1.5 pez. Might just buy the bearing kit off Ebay and fix it meself.

Good collection thread, Almeras seem to be quite decent motors, it feels like that every student we get at our place owns one as they appear to be impervious to mechanical neglect.

If you do rebuild the box then please post a thread up covering it.
