2MB Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Not sure if springs are progressive on a corsa, but the big issue with those is the fact the end has been cut straight. The leading edge will put a lot of pressure on one area of the spring cup, possibly putting a hole in it. A tickle with a grinder to flatten the edge would make it safer, but you can still fail an mot if the end of the spring is obviously cut
seth Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 ...you can still fail an mot if the end of the spring is obviously cut No, you can't/shouldn't without other good reason, if the tester is following the rules. http://www.ukmot.com/manual/2.4/Fluid-Gas-Air-Suspension Where a coil spring is incomplete, cracked or fractured at an extreme end where the spring locates on the spring mount, it should only be rejected if: the function of the spring is impaired following jacking, the spring ends do not locate correctly when the vehicle is lowered into the normal running position without assistance These criteria should also be applied to springs that have been deliberately shortened or modified in order to lower the suspension.
garethj Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Interesting about it not being an MoT fail as long as it sits square when the car is on the road. I still don't fancy it due to the higher stress to the material, but I also slow down for speedbumps so I'm not normal.
Split_Pin Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Had a helical stepped rubber doughnut seat on the strut as I have said so it say fine. Everyone who says they are fine has/is using cut springs already but in this day and age a new set of 4 was only 50, a make I already had on thw car for 5 years, so those went on. Asked people to put their money where their mouth is now and put them up for sale......
