Christmas is nearly over. TIME TO RACE.

For those of you vaguely near the middle of our fine country, who will be desperate to get out and do something vehicular by Boxing Day, then feast your eyes on this

Mallory Park is doing their Plum Pudding racing again. Ten quid gets you in, and then it's just whoever has a race car that wants to escape the family goes on the track. There were three categories last year - bikes, sidecars and cars. That means you get some nutter in a 500bhp Escort Cosworth on the same track as a 50bhp Mini, or a jacked-up KTM drifting around classic bikes. About 12-15 bikes, half a dozen sidecars, and 15-20 cars turned up last year.

It's quite a laugh if anyone from TEH MIDLANDS MASSIV wants to join me and t'wife. Or anyone else. TMM membership not required.

I went. Last year, I distinctly remember having a t-shirt, a jumper and my army coat with winter layer buttoned in, and still went home early because cold.

This year I had a t-shirt and thin coat and still got too hot. Bloody Christmas.

Anyway, here's some stuff that happened at Mallory today:

There were more three-wheel mentalists dangling their fleshy bodies over the unforgiving tarmac. They all look the same to me, but there was one that sounded new, a few "retro" ones, and then these chaps on something "classic" with a back wheel an eighth of the size of the others.

Onto the bikes. The guy on the KTM from last year was back and still going into the chicane sideways, but this year he wasn't trouncing everything because some guys turned up with bigger toys and 250ccs more. Nice mix, couple of BSA Bantams on track too. There was a worry when an "incident" closed the track for ten minutes, but the chap turned out to be OK and only went off because his engine exploded halfway round and locked the back wheel up.

Cars to follow shortly....

Widebody Cordoba - give Trigger a couple of sheets of fablon and a bit of balsa wood and he'll be all over this look. I think this has been here a couple of times and it's an ex-Touring car from some championship or other. It was fast and made pssshhhht noises.

Purple SD1 was being run by a rookie, but was pretty weapon. Couldn't get close to the car in the pits to see what engine it was running but it kept starting at the back and making its way to the front quite quickly. Sadly he tried to use a Mk1 Focus as a brake at some point, twisted the front bumper to shit and then ended up running over it which I think gave him a puncture and put him out of race one.

Nova was well tidy, and spent much of the race hassling an Integra Type R

Renner 5 was beautifully presented, looked more museum piece than racecar. However it retired early from both races with rather suspect clouds of blue smoke - it was being driven pretty hard though!

106 was less well presented, and managed half a race and didn't reappear! Good use of race tape though.

Other stuff

This appeared to be prepped by students and was doing pretty well. Humorous badging adds 20bhp.

Not sure how they decided on classes, it wasn't just tintop and open roofed stuff as the MR2s were in with the MX5s and the Caterhams. Good turnout in the sportscars though.
