Not buying an Alfa.

What would you do?

Buy it!  I have one of those identical colour spec but tan cow.  Same mileage too     Been running as a daily of 6 years now and hasn't hurt wallet at all.  Some jobs, but not what I would call hurt.

Colour is 'Brilliant Blue'

10v is the one to have, they go on and on.  20V came later and you can tell by 6-speed box.

At this money, it's probably being putted out as it has dicky alternator (subframe off) or rot on the pans (interior out) or clutch stiff and crunchy (£££ inc DMF)

So if it passes the above you'd be daft not to buy it

I'm afraid he's right. The last Alfa that felt special to drive (for the 6000 miles the bottom end usually lasted) was the 33.

Depends what you are after, but I can't quite agree there, sorry

I currently own an early 33 and a middle-age 156.

Had three 33s and two 156s over the years.

156 is a lovely point-to-point drive if you keep the bushes tip top.  I get in other (similarly priced when new) brands and am soon bored and disappointed.  So it must be special.  Part of the reason my 156 still hasn't been replaced.

The 33 however was a backward jump after Alfasud.  They even took the front anti roll bar off the lesser models...  By the time they'd made it drive properly it so elderly it was outclassed in all areas.  I never ran a bottom-end and all pumps were still the factory ones at 100k and the body was rotted

Subjective assessment of course

/ back on subject

Has it been bought yet?

Glass's Car Checkbook says 5cyl DOHC, 136bhp.

They've got that wrong, there were three stages of tune and 136 was pre-2002

136 > 140 > 150

Mine has the 150 (says so on logbook too) and is late 2002

You'd know a 20V as it has the full-fat panels / lights facelift, and not just interior lift.  That blue car isn't one of those, so you're onto a winner

Having just negotiated another car purchase it is likely that my 156 will be for sale shortly but a bit above shite prices. The market seems all over the place though so I need to think what it's likely to sell for. A lot less than a new dmf, clutch, lots of new suspension bushes etc, that's for sure! It's had a new turbo, alternator etc too before I bought it.

Absolutely agreed - moving from a late 'Sud to an early 33 must have been a shock. But moving from a late 33 into a lardy, early 145 was probably far worse !

The bottom-end comment was tongue-in-cheek, though I did have a mate who went through three 1500cc engines in six months... Let's just say that he revved his engines a bit more than he should ! It was probably the noise of the twin Dellortos...
