There was also a posh roffle! €10 a ticket / 200 tix to be sold for the chance to win a 2002 V6 S Type Jaaaaaag. I managed to restrain myself.

TTFN.

Mmmmm, nice. I'm toying with the idea of a move to Dublin, and filth like this isn't helping.

Some lovely cars there particularly the R6 and the 127 Sport. The new issue reg number on the R6 looks awful. There's far too many numbers!

The 127 was a beauty - One of the most mint 127's I've seen... Probably a €10,000+ car...(!)

Swords%20Show-15_zpsxgd7qgey.jpg

The R6 was nice, bar the poor colour match on the NSF wing - Agree about the plate. If I ever get around to bringing my LNA over permanently, I'll try and register it in Carlow or Longford to get a lower number.

That 505.

Christ alive they were good looking cars

505 GTi, no less, in automatic flavour - A great grand tourer I'd suggest, if you can stomach the 25mpg ish fuel bills... Where have they all gone?!

Found a few more...

Blurry '76 Pisshat - A LHD1600 Auto, riding on late 90's Pisshat rims... for sale at €3250 / £2500 ish

Swords%20Show-2_zpsxcxkad8c.jpg

This gent was understandably proud of his X1/9 - He's owned it for 30+ years, and it's in semi-regular use.

(Looks much better on the earlier bumpers...)

They love these over here - 80's / 90's Starlet's are still quite a common sight.

Small world!

The base of OSR window / rear 3/4 panel was pretty holey - And a few paint / rust blisters over the rump, which would want investigating.

Nice car, though - What's the story with it? (Being LHD, and all?)

That 505 GTI is or was for sale recently on carandclassic.co.uk.

What's with all the different styles of Irish plates?

What's with all the different styles of Irish plates?

Pre 1987 it was 2-3 letters (identifying county) and numbers - Rear plates were red with black letters. e.g. 924 ZDL

Post 1987 it's been last two digits of the year, code for the county, and unique number identifier. e.g 88 D 4564 ('D' for County Dublin)

If you bring in a classic from abroad / UK into state (older than 30 years), you can opt for current style plates (My LNA would be '83 D ****') or a 'ZV' classic plate (ZV *****) instead.

Problem is, that plates are issued sequentially (I believe), so you can end up with a ridiculously high unique identifier number, like the Renault 6 owner, which looks a bit iffy.

Also, if you elect for '83 D' style plates you can change over to ZV plates if you want later on. If you opt straight for ZV plates, you're stuck with them (you can't switch to the '83 D' style).

So long as the car's a vintage vehicle (over 30) you can pick standard style black on white plates, old skool black on red rear plates, or classic silver on black (like pre-72 UK).

There's also different rules regarding fonts here, and it seems that most things go, so long as the letters / numbers are regulation height and the plate has the county name in Irish / the EU IRL badge...(Italic script, anyone?!)

was at lough rynn and there was a 94 bike with a red plate about the size of a crunchie bar in italics :D

cops will do nowt as font and size isnt a requirement as long as theres a - between the characters and the county at the top (MUST have this and its something they will pull you for apparently)

the reno 6 just has a plate that whoever made it did it wrong its not an import - for dublin they started at 120000 for louth its prolly 20000

have seen irl numbers on uk yellow plates but usually happens in donegal and monaghan (border counties - cheaper to buy plates in the north)
