Does Anybody have Colour Chips for a 1970s Citroen?

Please could you look at your chips to see if ac436 brum cigale is lighter than ac427 brum scarabee?

I am trying to order the paint for my Citroen GS, the paint code is ac436 but the paint on the bulkhead under the code seems to be a lighter shade of metallic brown than the outside of the car. My friend thinks the car had been painted at some point in a slightly darker colour. In 2007 I bought two tins of colour match aerosol ac436/ac427, I remember one was a good match and the other a bit lighter than the bonnet. I am thinking the car was originally ac436 and has been painted ac427. My thinking is to order the orginal ac436 and the car will turn out lighter than it is now but I just want to be sure before I order.

Thanks

I may* have a rattle can of A427 somewhere (last used in the 1970s).

The other colour you mentioned was not a DS colour so can't help with that.

The picture of the DS does not look like either of my colours, this is a hard job to do on screen I guess in the end I will order the original ac436 colour and take what I end up with.

I have the chips here and your GS is definitely brun cigale.

Are you thinking like the outer panels or the bulkhead?

The DS is deffo brun scarabee and the photo gives a very good impression of it.

Your GS is definitely brun cigale on the inside panel you show. The outside colour doesn't look 100% correct.

I did a bit of google googling and found a picture of a GS that gives a good impression of what brun cigale looks like on my colour chip.

It's a bit coppery in daylight, whereas your car's outside paint doesn't seem to be.

Every day's a school day!   There was a French teacher down our street when I was a kid.   English bloke but taught French if you see what I mean.   Looked like Jacques Tati but drove a two tone PA Cresta.   Anyhoooo, his house was called Les Cigales and I never bothered to find out why.   Obviously it was over run with cockroaches.

On the negative side I have earlier spent two hours looking for my Citroen colour chips and still haven't found them.   As you were.....

I thought paint got mixed by magic these days?

So they match the actual colour you have now rather than the colour the factory said it was once?

Paint chip useful as a guide but you need a skilled painter/mixer to get it right.

There are both ways. They can match the paint that's on your car for a partial respray.

They can also mix the original colour according to the manufacturer's recipe.

Note: Nothing matched in the 70s and 80s, not even original paint.
