oldcars Posted July 30, 2018 Author Posted July 30, 2018 Spent some time fixing this Saurday afternoon rather than breaking it which was nice.Adjusted the throttle screw to reduce the idle, took it for a run and it was spot on. Would not start this morning so gave it a wee adjust again and its running brilliant now, see how it goes tonight.Got the prop greased, the ball bearing on the grease nipple was stuck so a little tap with a small srewdriver got it working and fresh grease pumped in. Vibration seems to be away now from a run this morning. egg, RayMK, doug and 1 other 4
oldcars Posted July 31, 2018 Author Posted July 31, 2018 Didn't start well this morning, had to use a bit of accelerator which i don't normally have to. Might raise the idle a little i think. One question, when i adjust the throttle screw do i then need to check the choke gap is still 40 thou, or does one not affect the other?
plasticvandan Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 yes it will alter the choke from memory, long time ago now! oldcars 1
oldcars Posted July 31, 2018 Author Posted July 31, 2018 Super, will get the idle spot on then check the gap again.
oldcars Posted August 2, 2018 Author Posted August 2, 2018 Starting and idle now seems spot on with some adjustment.I did hear a odd squeak coming from the passenger side rear wheel. Like a rubber sound rubbing on something. No sign of anything touching the tyre. Will keep ear on it but for now its spot on. Really enjoy driving this wee car. RayMK 1
plasticvandan Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 anti roll bar bush, shock bushes,or handbrake cable rubbing on axle/exhaust oldcars 1
oldcars Posted August 2, 2018 Author Posted August 2, 2018 Cheers, had new handbrake so will check that out. Looked ok when i greased it but could well be rubbing.
Guest Hooli Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Might only rub when you're in the car & the suspension settles so get a victim to sit in it while you look? oldcars 1
oldcars Posted August 9, 2018 Author Posted August 9, 2018 Made some odd noises this morning again. Took wee lad to his school club thing and it was fine, when only me in it the odd noises started. Same the last time my mate was in it, no problems. Going to pop down and get it on the ramp next week see if i can get to the bottom of it.
Mally Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Be careful with the ramp.Pits are even worse! oldcars and stonedagain 2
oldcars Posted August 10, 2018 Author Posted August 10, 2018 What are the signs for a faulty clutch release bearing? I am wondering if this is the cause of the squeaky now.
RayMK Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Usually they make grinding noises when the clutch pedal is pressed or sometimes sound as though something is catching on a rotating part but occasionally they'll make tinkling noises without touching the pedal. It depends on what type of release bearing your car has and how badly it has worn. When you can safely inspect the underside for possible causes of the elusive noise, have someone press the clutch pedal (engine off) to see if the engine is moving enough to touch something, though this is unlikely if it's a Bowden cable rather than a rod. If it is still the same noise you reported a while ago, the rear suspension including tyre and axle clearances and the propshaft would be my first ports of call. Also check the axle U-bolts for tightness and the shackles/rubber bushes and damper fixings/bushes for anything untoward. oldcars 1
plasticvandan Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 you will have a carbon thrust bearing,so if thats faulty you will already know (it wont move) oldcars 1
oldcars Posted August 10, 2018 Author Posted August 10, 2018 Thanks. Yes still the same noise. It only seems to happen when driving, if rolling in neutral it does not happen. That's what got we wondering about clutch. Will report back once up on the ramp next week.
oldcars Posted August 20, 2018 Author Posted August 20, 2018 Not had a chance to get this on the ramp yet.Did have another play with the carb. As one adjustment effects another the choke gap was way off 40 thou. Changed that and it starts spot on. Running really well now.It repayed me by breakings its wiper. Oddly it works off the screen, moves back and forward, but on the screen only moves a few inches and stopped. Haby now its back to pissing down 24/7 here.I guess the motors done? Where are these located, is it the thing under the dash at the passenger side?
plasticvandan Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 yes it is,i would suspect its more likely the wheelbox has siezed than the motor,if you pull the radio out (assuming you have one) you can see it right at the back of the dash, experienced nutters like me can remove the thing blind by contorting my hand in the gap,but you may just want to squirt some wd40 on it to free it,then some spray grease to lube it. oldcars 1
bub2006 Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 It must be the season. My trike gave up last night. Lots of smoke from bellhousing and no drive.

Will try this first. Odd it works fine when the wiper is off the screen, but the resistance from the screen is to much by the looks of it.

oldcars Posted August 20, 2018 Author Posted August 20, 2018 What are they like to replace? Might be easier on yours with the lack of body around it.
bub2006 Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Easy really. There's an inspection panel behind centre console to get to bolts on bellhousing. Jack back end up to rotate prop to get to all prop bolts and slide box off. Just have to lift it a bit at the rear to clear the box mounts oldcars 1
oldcars Posted September 20, 2018 Author Posted September 20, 2018 Live ftp!won't start, think starter has had it, smokes. Awaiting recovery. Only second ftp in 5 years. Can't complain.
oldcars Posted October 23, 2018 Author Posted October 23, 2018 Forgotten what this looks like. It is still in my mates yard to be fixed.
oldcars Posted October 29, 2018 Author Posted October 29, 2018 Getting this back tomorrow. Can't wait, missed the wee thing. adw1977, yellowperil, Eddie Honda and 3 others 6

oldcars Posted October 30, 2018 Author Posted October 30, 2018 Been missing seeing it on the A71 !Not me mate. What colour is the one you see?
Momentary Lapse Of Reason Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Blue - not seen it for ages.
oldcars Posted October 31, 2018 Author Posted October 31, 2018 Mine is blue too, but i am not on that road. There was a blue Robin local, chap sold it and has a red Robin slx now. May have been that one. New starter is class, fires up well very happy. Paintwork is good again too. It was lifting on a couple of bits so that's sorted too. Just need to waxoil up the suspension and a frame bit and its ready for winter. egg and RayMK 2
oldcars Posted October 31, 2018 Author Posted October 31, 2018 This car must not like me. Clutch return soring broken again. Only put on on two years ago. Odd but clutch still works fine this time.
