UmBongo Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 After a recent rain shower on one of the few very hot days we've had up here my bonnet has acquired some rather nice water spots. Example photo. I've tried spraying on a vinegar and water solution but it made no difference. I think they are the stage three ones the geeks on detailing sites refer to. Any suggestions, people?
the judge Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Have you t cutted? I had hand marks i could not get off my motor once, turned out to be suncream! Any chance it could be that?
Clanger Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 40 grit should take care of those. You're welcome. CGSB, Timewaster and AlabamaShrimp 3
doobietoo Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Just leave it... eventually the lacquer will peel and it will look like all our cars....This site ....... CGSB, Junkman and The Moog 3
Anglevan Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 It's the droplets that act as a magnifying glass. Yes polish will fix it (G3 farecla or T-Cut).But that will only work on the short term. Once the paint loses its protection to the sun as in this case it's goosed. It will always come back and needs repainting. I assume at some point this was pogweasel pink and has buffed up. The droplets suggest you wax it but it's not enough. The paint has ceased to be, is no more, !
lisbon_road Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I'm a shade more optimistic. I have a 90s Vauxhall that of course went completely orange, and we did it with a proper buffing machine and G3. Paint flew off everywhere in big lumps but it came up looking like a new car. That was about four years ago and it still looks good. Helps that I keep it out of the sun whenever possible. I think the comments about it not lasting as long as the original are right, but protection with polish may help. Small area, T cut by hand. Large area, buffing machine and G3.
alf892 Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I get his on the rover if the sun comes out straight after rain.........happens really bad if I have polished it with colour magic stuff. Never us that now....just autoglym followed by that protector stuff they and it seems fine. Only polish it one a year now....
Junkman Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Just ignore it and let it mature into delightful Pogweasle Pink.
beko1987 Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 A good clayDodo juice lime prime (not lite) A nice polish with something (autoglym ultra deep shine will be nice) A nice wax Should get rid of the marks and protect the paint for a while. The lime prime is a paint cleanser with mild abrasives so should lift it out.
