Where are all the Lock ups going?

I lost my lockup at the end of April; 10 days' notice, five of which I was in Sofia

10 days?  That's not enough, what did the lease agreement state?

I've three garages (owned by myself) on Council leased land

My local council do have spare garages to rent with a guarantee that they will be raided the day after.

So I asked about council land to lease in order to have my own built. I'm certain the paperwork was designed to make you give up before you started.  Then to be told we'll contact you when land becomes available. I've given in.

Down in the deep south I'm amazed there's any at all given the ridiculous price of land (which developers will actually pay - hence house prices!). Those that are left are usually in really shit areas and will be raided or torched. Most people seem to have forgotten what a garage is for (ie: not for old crap that needs to go straight to the local tip - not a bootsale), mind you, given that alot of modern cars don't fit into garages that were build in 60's cars dimensions, this is not wholly surprising.

My advice would be to do a sweep locally and approach folk directly about renting their lockup. Consider an ad in the local rag(s) stating what area and what you are willing to pay. It worked for me years ago (pre-house ownership) when I got a lockup for free for about 7-8 years in all from an old lady who lived over the road from my folks. All i ever did was clear it out and repair the roof twice. They are out there, just ask around, the worst that can happen is you'll be told to piss off.

Does anyone use the space in front of their lockup to keep another car on?

Yes, on a couple, but only because they were overlooked and roadside.  Never got vandalised but did get the badges prised-off the Lancia by some youngster*

I bit of friendliness towards the locals goes a long way, I even left my number with one old fella as he seemed to be the ideal curtain-twitcher.  Never left anything long-term and covered with a tarp, that would just nark the neighbours

*It might have been a slow adult, so apologies to the young for the assumption.

Thought I'd pop some figures down, for my own head sorting if nothing else

I've three garages (owned by myself) on Council leased land, 2X @ £3 and the double @ £6 per week.

So the ground rent alone is £468 pa.  What are the land lease regs on size and use of the buildings you've put up?  Or are these the original council garage buildings?

Local council want £608 for the year in a secure block in the middle of the old council estate, so I should be chuffed with the £360 on the private garage deal on the private end of town from the nice retired local lady who bought that whole block years ago

Nearest rentable through the profiteers on justpark.com is a £5 per day arrangement making it £1825, but it is on a youngish private estate.
