Station Posted April 11, 2015 Author Posted April 11, 2015 That GSi is identical to mine, bar the 5-stud conversion.. I assume it used to have an LET & F28 that has since been removed? What's your plans? It had a saab B204 and an F28. The seller did some 'interesting' things with it (ie complete bodge on all levels) that will take time and money to put right. He painted three of the wheels, but didn't get round to the fourth one. He made the exhaust out of recovered scrap stainless steel tubing. The welds looked like he had welded using baked beans instead of wire, and each seam had a ring of those black soot marks from the numerous blow holes. He wanted an extra £75 for it. The car is a cacklecade of comedy cock ups - snipped wiring, sellotape, bolts/screws missing, metal cut with angle grinder, etc I have another identical black one with a B204R and an F28. It is otherwise completely standard though.I'm probably going to put an XE with an F20, I really liked them and the Saab conversion is usually done so badly from what I've seen. I just want another GSi. I'm going to do the brake pipe method, purely as I have miles of it but no wire coat hangers Rusty_Rocket 1
Pete-M Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I know someone with a Saab 3.0 Griffin Turbo thing with a dead auto box. Engine sounds pretty sweet in it I'm sure he'd exchange it for some beer tokens.
Junkman Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 A-framers I knew: What they A-framed: Skizzer, nigel bickle and Rusty_Rocket 3

I know the later ones had a load of incompatible wiring and engine mounts and the engine is too tall in some of them and won't fit. 3.0 v6 turbo sounds nice though!
Station Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 I picked this up the other night, Mark/minimad towed me in his Volvo and I actually sat in the a-framed Astra for some of the journey, which was wierd, watching the wheel going and not trying to operate the pedals at every point. Also having no heater, and having to have the windows open because the exhaust from the tow car coming straight into the cabin, especially going up hill! Was un-eventful, apart from tightening up the ratchet straps once a little bit down the road. Would do again now. 'TOA' - it was! And then I spent all of Sunday fixing all of the snipped wiring loom!
