5h20 train ride is easy. set alarm for 10 minutes earlier than you're due for each change and the final station and snooze all the way.

Kent awful? No, just some parts of it, the rest is really nice, I grew up in Maidstone (county town).

 

The crap bits are most of the medway towns (esp. Chatham) with the exception of Rochester, most of the old seaside towns, Margate, Ramsgate, Isle of Thanet on the east coast & Sheppey plus Dover (not the place to go if you don't like foreigners apparently).

 

Getting around the north of Kent is OK (M2 & M20 plus a fair few big D/C A-roads) but the shite thing is getting to the south coast - Hastings etc. as it's not far but takes forever, like travelling around Cornwall!

You can say that as Its a two hour journey for me to travel to work from Bexhill to Ramsgate and that's not rush hour.
