Is having a 'scene' a good thing.

Scene tax does tend to get stuff stolen a lot which would be scary , MK 1 and 2 Escrots / VW campers are favourites from what i can tell .

I bought a 2 door E30 318i 4 years ago for 600 notes , people keep telling its worth a mint , it aint .

Ive a few Imps bought for next to zero over 20 years ago , prices are rising , so much so i couldnt afford my own cars now . Still no great parts supply which means these are getting harder and harder to keep on the road.

Id rather have a valueless heap i didnt have to worry like the Imps were when i first bought them .

Adding value takes things into the realms of investment rather than enjoyment, which is a little sad, I suppose. Take Messerschmitt Owner for example, who had owned a Messerschmitt (funnily enough) long term and was in a quandry over whether to sell it or not, knowing he could afford many more micro cars if he did but understanding he could never afford to own a Messerschmitt again. Dollywobbler's in the same boat with a 2CV, I guess. On the modification front, how many standard post '70 Minis exist nowadays, other than low mileage late coopers on large wheels, or the odd special edition? It is strange that people want to modify them so much but then I suppose it adds a bit of variety to a club meet for the owners. Stags are lovely but they mostly remain standard looking and a bunch of 20 in a field is uber dull.

Owning a 205 GTI over here is great, as you so rarely see another round my neck of the woods, so it doesn't attract any attention/scene and I can just enjoy driving it (Same goes for the Visa x1000). There's still some parts supply and tech support from an on-line NZ forum but prices are on the rise. The Commodore attracts a lot of attention and people seem to love the fact that it looks standard, yet I just know it'll be un-tastefully modified by the next owner if/when I sell it.
