Treating undersides surface rust

Treating the rear suspension mounts on a focus, the rust is just surface - I've rubbed down and wire brushed. Applied some Kurust on it, then a coat of Isopon Zinc Primer. Thinking next a coat of underseal aerosol Shutz type stuff then a very very liberal coating of Waxoyl?

That's what I do. Seems to work.

Pretty much what I do, I have  found Vactan easier and safer to use than Kurust.   I usually brush rather than spray the actual chassis paint but only because I usually get more in my hair and eyes than I do on the car when underneath.   Have found Rustoleum to be durable and easy to apply although its a bit pricey.   Whatever brand or method a good coat of Waxoyl (I use Bilt Hamber UC) is a good idea.   Do it now by all means but I always favour a nicely warmed can and hot summer car so might be worth having another go in the summer with the Waxoyl, I usually under the car twice a year with it.

Safer to use? This worries me. Some leaked through my glove managed to wash it off. I'm not going to wake up tomorrow with my fingers falling off an I?

I got a lot of Kurust on my hands once when the bottle split open..... Hands/fingers turned black but never actually fell off or owt. Washed off eventually.

Anybody getting under a car to rust proof it just as the weather is going tits up deserves a medal.

Did it in a centrally heated garage. I wasn't going to fuck about in the minus temps outside.

I found Bilt Hambers products this year, won't be returning to Waxoyl, even if they were the same quality the ease of BH in use more than compensates for the higher cost.

Similar actions though, wire brushing/rubbed down, didn't bother with Kurust went straight to primer then Bilt Hambers coatings inside and out, all done in the warm weather mind.

Bilt hamber Hydrate 80 seems to be magic stuff. I've sometimes applied it to surface rust and forgotten/CBA to paint over it, and it's been fine through a winter. Obv not the best way to carry on, but it speaks well of the product. Don't get me started on their Dynax wax, I'd paint my whole car in it if I could.

My Cowley has a nasty gash (like some bird I knew) in one door which really needs welding up.  Its had Dynax UC on it for nearly a year now without getting visibly worse.  There is no nasty orange yet, anyway.....It sprays really well at FAR lower temperatures than Waxoyl does/did.  I tried persuading my local factors to stock it but nobody wants to pay more than the Waxoyl price....I just did the entire underside of the Minor for the second time this year with it, didn't really need doing but then again I don't really need to be spending more on welding either.

It hasn't killed me yet but they do warn to wash it off afterwards and I don't think its very kind to existing good paint....

3 days in and my fingers are still intact. Anyway whilst it was on the two post lift today it's had it's second coat of body Shutz before a liberal coat of waxoyl.
