I passed my test in a 305 estate as well. It was my parents, a 1985 model 1.9D

The first van I ever drove was a 250,000-mile 305. It was utterly shagged. The laminate in the windscreen had gone so bad that it was like driving around with someone else's glasses on. The rear suspension squeaked more than an amorous mouse. I somehow still liked it.

I used to work at a forklift place that ran 305 vans and a 504 pickup......even the bosses wife had a 305 estate and the junior rep was upgraded from a 1.6 diesel mk3 escort to a 205 n/a diesel.

 

Bloody wonderful motors.......as I came from a car dealers I got the job of servicing them. Had to to the occasional rear spring or front hub bearing but other than that they were no bother at all.

 

We were dealers for kalmar climax forklifts and their small truck had an XUD in it....with an 'auto'.......great for drifting into the workshop

The pillars on that van would put me off, but that first estate you posted is lovely.

 

If getting it legal enough to drive home is easy then that's a very tempting thing.
