Any interest in some kind of track day next year?

But you can overtake people and use a stopwatch on your phone. Plus you get to drive your car as fast you can without losing your license.

Races are races, that's why you need MSA accreditation. There should be a production car racing series allowing the most basic of safety mods, a fixed power and weight limit and a set tyre type.

Indeed. Being able to hurl your car around with no concerns about other road users or breaking the law is hugely addictive, even without timing. Even if you drive a 2CV.

At Rockingham on the 13th, you can pay just £30 online for a taster session - a rather milder track session for beginners. This is what Dugong's colleagues did last time I was there. I was mucking about on the skid pan instead but I wish I'd done a session now.

I'd love to do another track day. Last did one about seven years ago in my Alfa 145 which was one if the slower cars on track but it was massive fun.

Now that's something I want to do! What's the score with that? Are you able to dick about in whatever you turn up in or is it a by backhand arrangement affair?

I found an app that would work well for track days.

First you start the app and set it to record, then you do one lap of anywhere.

Next you set the start finish point on the gps map it makes.

Then you can do as many laps as you like all timed by the app.

I tried it out, probably invalidating my insurance briefly too. However I will add I wasn't racing! I was sticking to the speed limits.
