....with a problem.

I've just had a fantastic week on the Isle of Wight, but the V70 didn't enjoy it quite so much.

I started off last Sunday. Had a high speed run around the M25 as far as the A3, after that - traffic jams until the junction with the M3. As I joined the M3, and put my foot down, the old girl started jerking badly, missing like a bastard.

This set the scene for the rest off the week really. While the car was cool, no probs, as soon as I got stuck in traffic and the car warmed up a bit, the missing started. I chucked a whole bottle of Red-ex in the tank and run on that for a while. A couple of days later I topped up with Tesco's finest - Momentum. Yesterday I topped up again with regular unleaded. On the way back today, the car was much better, although the miss was still slightly evident on hard throttle.

I've not had a chance to have a butchers yet, so where would you lot start looking? To my shame, I didn't change the plugs, dizzy cap or rotor arm before I went, but the car was running really well, so I didn't think it was needed.

One thing of interest. A few days before I departed, I went to my usual petrol station for some juice. I pulled on to pump 10 only to be told over the tannoy that pump 10 wasn't working. On my way last Sunday I went to the same place for a top up and pump 10 was ok, so I chucked 30 quids worth in. Dodgy petrol maybe? Mixed with something it shouldn't have been?

What do you think?

Needless to say though, it's a Volvo, so it got us everywhere we wanted to go, even though it was feeling poorly.

I was offered a job while I was there.

Unfortunately the money wasn't enough, and I'd spend most of my time on the mainland, which kinda defeats the object.

Something breaking contact when hot.... I think you've already guessed well at leads, they'd be my first port of call. Also coil, given you said it does it under hard load.

I'm going to change the plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm first.

Euro Car Parts do the lot for about 36 quid. Should have done them before I went really.

That'll teach me.

What an amazing car these Volvos are.

I haven't laid a spanner on the beast since returning from my holidays, and it's running bloody superb again.

Going out in the morning for new plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm though.
