Battery voltage protection relay - anyone used one?

No, there's no water leaking in the cabin anywhere and the boot floor is dry too.  It's one of the things I looked for when I bought it.

Apparently there was water dribbling over the ECU under the scuttle as the pollen filter was missing, but there's no smell of damp inside the car.

The phone call with the garage was good - he agreed to take the car in and look again for the fault with no charge because "he hates being beaten by these things."  He said the next logical thing was the body control module and said that rather than buying a new one, the best idea was to fit a second hand one and see if it cured the problem.  If it does, I'll pay for it, if not, there's no need.

None of this was down to my impressive bargaining skills, either!

That would make me feel a little better about the £1250’s worth of shite old cars that I had not been able to buy thanks to his previous efforts

Paying someone £1250 to not fix a car is like paying a carpet fitter to turn up with no carpet and spent the next hour to crawl around banging the sideboards with a hammer.

How long were they working on it, two days to not even diagnose the problem? Jesus!

That's like those MOT repair places that charge 600 quid on three hours work and 40 quids worth of parts.

Firstly £350 of diagnosis, leading to a £400 alternator.

Then £500 of further work, including a second hand ECU.

I was talking to a bloke about his 2CV, apparently he's never had a fault with his ECU, nor his alarm module, his central locking has never gone wrong and he's never paid out for electric windows to be fixed.

The trouble is, mechanical faults are easy to find but take ages to fix, electronic faults take ages to find but are easy to fix. The Jaguar is demonstrating the second part perfectly.
