25v6turbo Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Last week i bought a spares Renault vel satis 3.5 Initiale, owning one of these you need as many spares as you can around you so i thought this was a good car for the expensive parts. Now the car has a private plate on it,i bought the car for the car and my mate went halves for the numberplate. He has filled in all the forms and sent them of to the DVLA,recorded delvery and photocopied everything for proof!I want to start breaking it,but he says wait until he get the retention certificate is back, but that could be a while?I don,t want to wait to long as i,am getting itchy to start on it,so what do i do?,how long does the retention take?
Cavcraft Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Isn't it up to a month? I wouldn't worry too much about breaking it, it's only going to be a problem if you (or the previous owner) have sent the V5 off as permanently scrapped. Even if they did want to view the car (which I would have thought was possible, but unlikely) then you could say you were restoring it.
crapcarcollector Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 If you went halves on it, the decent thing to do is wait till he's happy everything is in order before you start breaking it. I take it that it was taxed and MOT'd at the time the forms were submitted? If so, there really should be no issue, getting the plate on to retention. Sent from my Nokia 3310 using the force.
Dave_Q Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Technically they can ask to inspect the vehicle. Unlikely since the dvla is now made up of 3 sheep and an automated phone system, but you can bet if you take it to bits they'll want to see it!
Stixy Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Is it taxed ? If not they wont issue a retention form , if you were the last person to tax it is and sorned it less than 6 months ago they will generaly put the plate on retention . Best thing to do is wait until you have had a reply from Swansea
25v6turbo Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 Its on SORN,i got it like it,its tax ran out the end of April, but he was told SORN is o.k,its MOTed and insured, but on a SORN.Thanks for the advise most helpful.
Charlie Croker Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 I was told by the dude at the dvla that as long as the car was in my name when the tax ran out and it was me that sorned it then i had 12 months from the tax expiry date to get my plate off. The problem your going to have is with who its registered too as any change "interupts" the taxation history and its this what puts a spanner in the works. Sorry for my speling as my checker is goosed.lol.
