Ruff's tool revival & restorations.

I'll use this thread as a dumping ground for what I get up to when I'm not trying to clear out my workshop or working to keep the roof over our heads.

First up, I picked this up from ebay at the weekend, a bank busting £6.50 for a non working grinder.
I figured that if I couldn't make it go, at least the wheels were still good on it!

Well I got it into the workshop and found the monkey metal screws holding the baseplate on were seized solid, so I had to tickle them with the angry grinder.

Inside it was a myriad of spider nests and dead bugs, so I started by testing continuity on the flex cable, which was ok except for high resistance on the prongs of the plug, I gave them a good clean up and moved on to the switch.

Now I must confess I got a little too busy to take any pictures here, but inside the switch were two contacts and two springs, one of which had rusted and snapped, meaning that when the switch was thrown, the contact plate didn't move, luckily I found a similar spring in a box of spares and reassembled the switch.

The next task was to remove the remains of the base screws and replace them, followed by giving the old girl a bloody good scrub up. This was a task of utter fail, whatever the monkey metal they used on the screws was, I can't get anything to stick to it to aid their removal, I think I will have to add a couple of screws through the feet to hold the base plate on, as the risk of damaging the casting irreparably is high.

Elsewhere, I have sourced a new flex with modern plug, which I'll get fitted before the new base.

This is it rewired, all I have to do now is give it a damned good clean up, this means that I now have a small Draper bench grinder going spare, so I'll post it in my jumble thread in due course.
