(Sorry to be slightly off topic) much as I agree with the thread.

 

 Can you change those Astra mounts without taking the struts out?

 

Yes, just crack the nut on the top off, put spring compressors on, and then slide the top mount out. I've done it this way before.

 

Hey Station- I have a '94 Astra GSi with its (original) cracked top mounts.  I'm doing a front-end rebuild this summer and have bought febi-bilstein top mounts. Do you think they will be worth fitting? Gen VX part is nla now 

 

Thin you can still get genuine top mounts from Autovaux. They'll last for years. I don't really trust the other types. Another good thing is check the scrappies for intact ones. You can usually tell they are genuine as they're not cracked at all. Lowering the car will knacker them (and you're best going with solid top mounts or rebuilding them using decent urethane (do a search)).
