CortinaDave Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Just had my mk4 2.0 Cortina in for its test.. passed after needing only tie bar bushes and one brake pipe..What was interesting was its emissions report.0.010 % co2 and 31ppm HC !!Limits at that age are 4.5 % co2 and 1200 ppm HCSo much for the old cars killl the planet argument eh?
Albert Ross Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 That would pass a CAT test...............the mind boggles. My old pintos would never pass the 4.5 limit tests.............(But they would after fiddling for a bit, then readjust afterwards......)
alfetta Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 still reckon thats too lean for an old car, expect burnt valves sometime soon...
Ratdat Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I'd aggree with that... maybe a bit too lean. With checking. I've never had a problem getting old Japanese cars though emmisions ever. They are normally pretty clean running. I can't actually recall ever having and old car fail an emmisions test.
Mash Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 It would lend a lot of weight to the argument for this data to be collated through test stations to see what sort of figures older cars were producing so that it could be used as material to lobby parliament if it were ever needed.Course, I suppose you can always frig the test and reset the carb afterwards though....

I strongly suspect that if you told the government how clean old cars are in general they respond by cutting the emmisions limits down even tighter
CortinaDave Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 car seems quite happy, took the plugs out and they are a normal colour.. not white suggesting the mixture is OK.I've never fiddled with the mixture so its done 12,000 miles as is in my ownership with no probs
