Granada misbehaving

My M - I - L 's granada 2.4 has been playing silly buggers.

Yesterday, after a lot of cranking, it started, but today it did'nt want to play ball at all.

Battery slightly low at 12.2 volts, while cranking dropped to 10v so nothing wrong there. Tried a spare ( good ) battery - still the same.

Checked one of the plugs - spark, plug wet with fuel. A blast of easy start made no difference.

Disconnected the throttle position sensor ( engine goes into limited operation strategy ) still no go.

AA came out, while I turned engine on the key mechanic pulled on throttle linkage - car started, but was a bit wooly. Took it for a run and it seemed to be ok.

I hav'nt replaced the fuel filter in around 20 years - I have been put off due to the likelihood that the banjo unions/ pipe work / bobbins holding the pump etc will be past their best - no good damaging something and not been able to get the car to a garage.

I hope it is just the filter - I would imagine that sensors etc are hard to come by now.

If the spark plug was wet, it's certainly not the filter.

How long ago was the ignition stuff replaced?

Especially those pointless ignition leads do have a shelf life.

I must admit it has probably been a while.

I do find it odd that it started with the throttle wide open.

I was worried it may be an ECU related problem.

Wet plugs.....then started with throttle wide open. So flooded.

As Jman says look to the ignition.....the spark is barely surviving its journey

I've always wondered, are these 2.4 variants EFi or the K-jetronic setup?

My mother in law can get her purse out then - cap, arm and leads can go on it then.

I have changed them although it was a long time ago.

It can be hard persuading somebody to spend on their car.

It is an efi.

Temp sensor malfunction? It might be flooding because it thinks it's -92 or summat....

You could be on to something.

check the resistance on the crank sensor.... its more likley than any of the other sensors

temp sensor will normally start ok from cold but will not start from hot, but google should also give you resistance figures for that as well
