Just been looking through this again and interesting to see that there was also an option of a 5-speed auto. Hmmm, I wonder how easy it would be to lay my hands on one of them ... ?

I think it means on the 2.3 an auto is standard but a 5 speed manual is a no cost option . In 1982 I don't think any 5 speed autos existed let alone at Ford ,so they didn't even bother to differentiate or identify the 5speed as a manual.The Granada in 1985 was the first Ford 4 speed ,I think. The first 5 speed I remember was an option on 124 300e 24v Mercs in about 1992, although I could be wrong.

Ah, yes, have re-read it and yes you are quite correct - it was just where it said '5-speed or 3-speed automatic' were available that confused me. Now I think about it 5-speed auto' does sound quiet swish for an early 80s Ford even a vision of the future like the Sierra!
