The Reverend Bluejeans Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 A mate had a Lagoon green Alpina B2.5 based on a 1992 325i Coupe. Lovely car but so rotten. Got moar bits arriving next week - Z3 'lloys and want to sort out some LOWERING SPRINGS YO M TECH DRIFT ONO so I'll hit it next weekend with nu pix.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Almost done. Awaiting a Hammerite refurb on the 'loys, two front tyres (they're juuuust legal but not very clever), a good clean and a disc on Feb 1st. The interior has cleaned up spectacularly well (it's really nice now), Eibach lowering springs on so it has STANCE YO and the clear indicators wipe 5 years off it - it almost looks OMG LIKE A Y REG. cort16 and Bucketeer 2
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Update on this German Turd. MOT passed of course, rent in the screen and it's been in daily use. Put another diff in it as this one had an annoying power on/off clunk but the replacement diff was FOC and took me 2.5 hours to fit. Still has a bit of a wheelbearing drone somewhere, one of the fronts I think. One small issue - I can't really bond with it. It's a nice car and all that but really, I prefer the older E36. So, this one might be for sale.
320touring Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I have a facelift 320d sitting about, tbh any work I've done on it has had me dismayed at the quality compared to my e30. I find it hard to excited about the e46 or the e36..possibly sensible, but reckon complex and like a rust too
cort1977 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Early E36 are not too complex, once they brought in the OBD2 (96 maybe?) it was all a bit more complicated. The airbag light thing on the early ones can be just due to moving the seat with the seat belt anchor wedged down the side of the seat. Pulls the wire out or something. The wife managed to do it one day on mine and the $0.99 cent resistor didn't help. Doesn't matter for me though as not a test fail in Texas so just ignore it now. They do like a rust, no doubt about that.
gordonbennet Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I like E46's, good looker that one. I love Oxford Green, came within a gnats whisker of pissing £13k on a BMW approved used E39 M5 in that colour (with wood and tan leather)...that was in the depths of the recession probably 09 and i bloody should have bought it, the sporty beemer crew would have hated it which would have been a double bonus, and it was bloody cheap. Favourite car colour of all though is Mercedes GreenBlack, thats as sexy as hell. Trouble with modern shit is that they all look the bloody same, even the different colours are so bloody bland now that you can hardly tell what they are, dark as possible green clean polished paint looks the bollox and stands out.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 This one is very unrusty, front arches are virginal and yes, I'va had both front arch liners out to check, clean and Waxoyl. The drivers wing has been replaced at some point as there was the remains of a BMW Parts sticker on the inside. Cons? The air con doesn't work. I haven't given it a shot of gas as IT JUST NEEDS A FUSE etc etc. Electric glass moonroof doesn't do anything, but as it's firmly shut, a flying fuck I could not give. It's not the switch as I've fitted another - could be the comfort relay. I put two almost new (6mm) Michelins on the front as I couldn't face cheap Chinese rubber. Shimmy under heavier braking, wants a pair of front discs really to supplement the pads it chucked in last month. Has a nice big BMW battery. I changed the oil and filter and fitted a new alternator belt. £695. Seems fair for a half decent E46 these days, even with 173'000 light years on the odo. Not listed anywhere else as I prefer trips to the dentist to selling cars.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 Sold to a mate for £650 today. Not sad to see it go tbh. An electrical issue that caused the bugger to stay locked wasn't hard to fix, but it involved a module and lap top/diagnostics to code it in. That, I'm afraid, was my cue to exit. Had this happened to an E36, it would have been unlockable on the key and the module would not have needed coding. I am now cured of E46 BMW's.
