SBC help needed

Recommended Posts

My boss has a mastercraft ski boat running a chevy 350 does anyone know of a good forum for this engine.

It's got a tick from the top end, so we need info on engine i.d and clearances and torques etc for when we pull it apart.

Any info, or a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks, Rob.

A Formula 1 stock car forum, if such a thing exists, might help. I'm sure they will know all about mixing and matching yank V8s.

If it's got hydraulic lifters, give it a good flush out. What oil are you using, by the way?

Is this the fabled 350cid Diesel, or the run of the mill petrol?

No forum necessary. There isn't a thing to know about the SBC that I don't know.

First thing to do is adjust the rockers.

This (odd as it sounds) is done while the engine is running.

- Buy a set of new rocker cover gaskets.

- Let engine run until it reached operating temperature.

- Switch off engine.

- Remove 1 rocker cover.

- Stick a length of cardboard in at the outside of the cylinder head to avoid too much spillage.

- Start engine.

- One by one, loosen the nut of each rocker until you hear it knocking, then tighten until it's quiet, then another 1/4 turn.

- Once done, switch off the engine, replace the rocker cover, and don't be one of the twats that doesn't use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts.

- Repeat the above for the other side.
