I'm sure this topic has been done to death before.

I'd like an absolute definitive answer though.

If a car has been written off as a Cat C, doesn't that mean any remaining mot is invalid until a vic check has been done? Doesn't it then have to have a new mot after the vic check?

As i understand it your current mot stays valid, once it passes a vic check it needs another mot.

I think the second mot is to satisfy your insurers that the repair has been done to a safe standard.

My RRC was a cat c when I bought it, it still had an MOT. I purchased tax and drove it for six months. During those six months I MOT'd it, before taking it for a VIC. After the VIC I did not re-MOT it again until it expired.

I'm not sure if any of this is how things should have been but its what I did.
