car cassette player

Been looking for a cassette player for the car. I have the original head unit in the car but no bass or treble adjustment so sounds a bit crap. Not after a cd player because I use a cassette adapter to connect my phone to listen to music. A mate gave me a Sony explod cassette deck but it don't like the adapter! Anyone have ideas where I can pick a cheap generic unit or non coded car manufacture head unit?

I had a Philips "Top Of The Range" manual tuning stereo in my Renault 11 and that was the nuts. Wiped the floor with every system installed after it.

 

I say go for an 8 Track and be a real man.

Just had a late night nosy on ebay and seem to be car stereos with NO CODES MATE in description. Others are asking silly money for delivery! 8 tracks a bit before my motors time! It's a 91 h plate.

Do you want to play actual cassettes in it or do you just want to use the cassette adaptor to connect your phone? Because you can get a used CD player with a proper AUX socket for next to nothing now. I picked up a Sony XPLOD with aux for £25, and there are cheaper ones than that about.

Just to plug my phone into. But on the flip side cassette decks ain't worth breaking into a car for in the eyes of a local scrote.
