R plate Golf No clutch - cable fine. Ideas?

Anyone?

Title sums it up really.

Pedal went to deck, cable fine, but the clutch arm that's oddly on the end of the box rather than on the bell housing has no resistance.

Pointers/fooked/lob it/easy fix?

There is a small arm inside the box that commonly fails on mk3s apparently you can access it by taking the end plate off the box never done it personally but that's how a mate did his
