Charlie Croker Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Well i'm not happy. Yep its finally done it......my beloved MG-ZR has blown its head gasket. After a year of ownership the bastard chose new years eve to spew its guts its a good job i did'nt sell or swap it as i would be feeling rather shit right now. So what do i do repair it or punt it on as a spares or repair thingy? I reckon its worth next to nothing as it is though. Has anyone any idea what it would cost to repair? On the plus side the tax is due today and i did'nt tax it.........if i had taxed it then it blew i reckon that it would have received a major booting.lol.
Split_Pin Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Well, over the past few weeks I've been looking at a shitload of adverts for 75s and ZTs. Ones with HGF or fading clutches seem to make the bids fly on eBay. Reckon the smaller brother car is worth selling as spares or repair, that's if you don't want to fix it. What makes you think its HGF anyway?
Charlie Croker Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 It's got the mayo on the oil cap/belching loadsa white smoke/drinking water like George Best drank beer. I dont know how it went as it never overheated......the gauge is still sitting just under half as it should. Can they just blow rather than having to be overheated?
Albert Ross Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Yes, early stages of delamination you have there. Skim, headbolts, shim type gasket set, belt kit, oil/filter and antifreeze. If you do it yourself you should be in it for between £140-£200 depending on parts quality/source, and machining costs. You might get away without the skim and bolts, but not recommended.
SambaS Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Mine went last month. Never would have expected it. I wonder if it's a common thing. By the sounds I'd rather be repairing yours, I had to drive mine several miles clattering and smoking like fork, until the engine finally nipped up and I coasted into a layby (got off the motorway though which was my only aim).
Split_Pin Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I've been reading up on these and apparently the temp guage is inaccurate and gives no warning of impending HGF. Forums have stuff on them about a digital temp guage mod which gives a better indication of an adverse change in temperature.
Station Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 If you're going to repair it, try putting some K-Seal in it, it does work.
406V6 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 SORN it online quick, before the DVLA sends you an unwanted New Year present
ashmicro Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I can stick the MG Rover RAVE on rapidshare if you need it.
