FredTransit Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 From the 999 forum (where were you??) Two tones for real!! and the inside...... The Mk1 flavour Mk1 interior....
alf892 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Wow!............that mk1 is lovely. I still that was the best looking version. One of those in LWB van form with the flared rear arches is pretty much perfection
Shep Shepherd Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Get the Escort GL dressed up like a police car
Micrashed Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Nice, from the days when it was just a scoop em up and run service, I suspect modern ambulances when decommissioned are virtually useless owing to the stuff that will get taken off/ripped out.

According to eBay they're 'GR8 4 CAMPA VANS'. I'm not overly sure that eating an undercooked burger in the very same spot someone passed away from piles is a good idea personally. Nice to see you here you again though Fred, and many thanks for the hosting whilst AS was down.
walk Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Fab stuff! Is that Mk1 parked outside the Sunshine Desserts building?
Morgan84 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 I must admit the older they get,the more charm the transits have
FredTransit Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 Most asked question is "wonder how many people died in there?"TBH not many. The mk2 is ex Welsh St Johns (20,000 miles when bought) and the Mk1 is an ex works (17,000 miles when bought) so a V6 would be too much. Shes also got no roof hatch.
FredTransit Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 Fab stuff! Is that Mk1 parked outside the Sunshine Desserts building? if its near Old Oak Common Lane then yes! Also the Mk2 was destined to be a camper but the seller decided she was too small.... its nice to be back!
FredTransit Posted November 24, 2012 Author Posted November 24, 2012 I thougjt modern ambies were modular so its the chassis cabs that got sold on. Most decommissioned early ambies got campered. My theory being due to the commercially built campers like the CI Landliner and Road Ranger looking like ambies. The dead giveaway was most converters never got rid of the ambulance sign board

Nice to see you here you again though Fred, and many thanks for the hosting whilst AS was down. ambulances, even the big metal modular ones are a bit small for a camper plus side - is insulated and lined out - usually has a fairly high spec night heater and if it's not a night heater there's some form of heating - lighting in the rear - a couple of big 12 v power leads to the'incubator'terminals- and the stuff coming out of service now may well have an inverter and battery bank Not a Transit, but my ex-Out of hours centre GP on call car had an uprated alternator, additional HD 12 battery in the boot feeding a 1KW modified sine inverter for the on board telemetry and defib, up front there was a PMR radio, additional heater, air con over standard fit and mounting for the on board computer. Admittedly when I took delivery most of the above had been removed leaving just the extra 3 aerials, a scratched roof and holes in the dash - but it still has the extra diesel powered heater for quick defrosts in winter without the engine running.Downside was the clutch was fecked at just 37K miles. But for £3K at 3 years old I didnt complain, twas a good motor - the practice replaced it with a Picasso.
